In addition to the number, NALSA also launched its official portal for the same purpose. To ensure maximum visibility and accessibility, the toll-free number will be painted on the walls of govt schools, bus stands, railway stations, govt offices, govt hospitals, post offices, colleges, court complexes, legal service clinics established in villages, Juvenile Justice Board offices, children's homes, police stations, and jail complexes.
The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has launched a toll-free helpline number, 15100, to provide free legal aid and assistance to individuals across India. This initiative aims to make legal services more accessible, especially for marginalized and underprivileged communities.
Key Features of the Helpline:
Immediate Assistance: Callers can receive prompt legal advice and information on various legal matters by dialing 15100.
Accessible to All: The helpline is designed to assist anyone in need of legal support, regardless of their socio-economic status.
Referral Services: Depending on the nature of the legal issue, callers may be referred to panel advocates, mediation services, or informed about the status of their legal aid applications.
Promotion and Awareness Efforts:
To ensure widespread awareness of the helpline, various legal services authorities have initiated promotional campaigns:
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Samba launched an awareness campaign to promote NALSA's toll-free number, emphasizing its role in providing accessible legal aid.
In Pune, the DLSA utilized social media platforms like Instagram to inform the public about the helpline, encouraging individuals to seek free legal support by calling 15100.
Impact on Legal Aid Accessibility:
The introduction of the 15100 helpline is a significant step towards ensuring "Access to Justice for All," aligning with NALSA's mission to provide free legal services and conduct Lok Adalats nationwide. By simplifying the process of obtaining legal assistance, the helpline addresses barriers that many individuals face, such as lack of awareness or resources.
This initiative reflects NALSA's commitment to empowering citizens by providing them with the necessary legal support, thereby strengthening the justice delivery system in India.
