Court grants 60-day extension to finish probe against Balyan
New Delhi: A court on Saturday granted a 60-day extension to Delhi Police for the investigation against former Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan in an alleged organised crime case. Police sought a 90-day extension as Balyan's 90-day custody is expiring on March 3. He was arrested on Dec 4, 2024.
Balyan and the other accused were arrested in connection with alleged activities of an organised crime syndicate run by absconded gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu.

After hearing submissions from Delhi Police and the accused's counsel, the court of special judge Kaveri Baweja granted the extension to police to complete the investigation.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the court took cognisance of the supplementary chargesheet filed against co-accused Rohit aka Anna and Sachin Chikara under Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). The court has already taken cognisance of the chargesheet filed against accused Ritik alias Peter. It listed the matter for scrutiny of documents and further hearing on March 12.
In Feb, the court refused to cancel the arrest warrant against an alleged aide of Balyan in the MCOCA case. Earlier, on Jan 29, Delhi High Court refused to grant custody parole to Balyan, who is booked in the MCOCA case.
A Delhi court has granted a 60-day extension to the Delhi Police for completing their investigation against former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan, who is implicated under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). The police had sought a 90-day extension, but the court approved 60 days.
Balyan was arrested on December 4, 2024, in connection with an organized crime syndicate allegedly led by fugitive gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu. His initial 90-day custody period was set to expire on March 3, 2025.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja made the decision after considering arguments from both the prosecution and the defense. The court also took cognizance of a supplementary chargesheet filed against co-accused Rohit alias Anna and Sachin Chikara under MCOCA, scheduling further proceedings for March 12, 2025.
This extension underscores the complexities involved in investigating organized crime cases and highlights the judiciary's role in balancing investigative requirements with individual rights.
