The Central Government has issued an official announcement regarding the appointment of Manmohan, the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, to the position of judge on the Supreme Court. This is a momentous move. On November 28, the Supreme Court Collegium, which is overseen by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, unanimously recommended his elevation. This occurs as a result of the recommendation.

It is anticipated that Justice Manmohan would take his oath of office as a judge on the Supreme Court over the next few days. With his nomination, the total number of judges in the Supreme Court would increase to 33, which is just one judge shy of the maximum capacity of 34 judges (which includes the Chief Justice of India).

The Department of Justice published a notification that stated, "In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi, to be a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."

The career of Justice Manmohan is one that is both lengthy and illustrious. On March 13, 2008, he was appointed to the position of judge on the Delhi High Court, and in December of 2009, he was elevated to the position of permanent judge. His most recent job is that of Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, which he has held from September 29, 2024. He retired from that office on September 29, 2024.

The appointment of this new position at the Supreme Court is a significant turning point in his career as a judge.
