BSNL Sees Major Surge in Customer Base with 5.5 Million Port-ins

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has gained a lot of new customers. This is mostly because users' tastes have changed since private telecom companies raised their prices. BSNL got 5.5 million new customers through mobile number portability from July to October 2024. This is a tool that lets people switch phone companies while keeping their old phone numbers. This increase is a big change for BSNL, which has been having a hard time keeping users and getting new ones for the past few years.

When private telecom giants like Jio, Vodafone, and Airtel raised their prices in June 2024, customers started to change how they behaved. As the costs of calls and data on cell phones went up, many users started to look for cheaper options. A lot of people switched to BSNL because of this trend. BSNL is known for having cheaper plans and effective service, especially in rural and remote areas.

BSNL only saw 63,709 port-ins in June 2024, which is a small amount. But this quickly changed over the next few months. In July, 1.5 million people switched to BSNL, and in August, that number hit a high point of 2.1 million. The number of customers dropped to 1.1 million in September and 0.7 million in October, but the general growth in the customer base stayed strong. During this time, BSNL was able to gain price-conscious customers, which shows that it is becoming more popular in a market where private operators charge more.

The drop in the number of people leaving BSNL is another sign that the company is doing well. About 0.4 million users left BSNL in June 2024. In July, though, that number dropped to 0.31 million, and in August, it was only 0.26 million. Along with 0.51 million users leaving BSNL in October, there was a small rise in the general trend: more and more users are choosing to stay with BSNL. This means that customers are happier and more loyal, which is important for the company as it tries to build a more stable user base.

This change needs to happen at the right time. Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone all raised their prices at the same time that BSNL was working hard to improve its network and give more services. The company has been working hard to improve customer service and 4G coverage, and now those efforts are beginning to pay off. BSNL has always been known for having a wide reach, especially in rural areas. Now that more people are looking for cheap deals, it looks like the state-run company will be able to meet this need.

Even though BSNL's rise is positive, the company still has to work hard to keep its new customers and grow its market share even more. India's telecom business is very competitive, with companies like Jio, Vodafone, and Airtel always coming up with new ideas and deals to attract customers. But the recent rise in port-ins to BSNL shows that there is a big part of the market that cares more about price and dependability than about flashy deals.

In the end, BSNL's recent success shows that many users still care about price and dependability, even though private telecom companies are raising prices. Mobile number portability has helped the company get millions of new customers, which is a good sign that it is on the right track. How long this growth lasts will depend on how well BSNL can keep improving its service and keeping your plans affordable. But for now, it looks like BSNL is back on the map as a major player in India's tough telecom market.
