In a shocking turn of events for the murder case involving lawyer Anjali Gupta in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a contract assassin has surfaced with grave claims that he was paid less than the agreed upon Rs. 20 lakh for completing the crime. After almost a year of inquiry, the case has acquired a totally fresh aspect.

Well-known lawyer Anjali was shot dead over a year ago on her way home. Her husband's and in-laws' brief police detention led first suspicions towards a family conflict. Later on, they were found free of any participation. For months, the inquiry concentrated on the identification of the shooters—who were caught shortly following the crime.

But the case changed course when Neeraj Sharma, one of the alleged gunmen, was lately released on bail. In a startling change of events, Neeraj complained to the police alleging that none other than her own family planned Anjali's murder, not the result of some hapless criminals.

Neeraj claims he was hired to kill Anjali's mother-in-law Sarla Gupta and father-in-law Pawan Gupta in addition to her husband. He claims that five stores in the TP Nagar area of Meerut were promised extra pay in addition to a contract for Rs. 20 lakh for the job. Neeraj says he and his co-assailant, Yashpal, first kept silent about the family's involvement due to the financial situation but have now had second ideas and chosen to come forward with the truth.

Neeraj adds that Anjali's husband had revealed private information about her daily activities, which let the killers carry out their scheme more easily. He also charges the Gupta family of years of harassment of Anjali, which, he claims, resulted in the sad decision to have her killed.

Ayush Vikram, Senior Police Officer Meerut City, has attested to the police treating Neeraj's allegations with seriousness. According to him, the inquiry would be reopened and additional action will be done should fresh data substantiate these updated claims.

The case has generated indignation since many people wonder how family conflicts may be related to the death of a reputable professional. The notion that a contract killer would come forward to report the murder gives the narrative an unpleasant twist by highlighting the sinister side of wealth, treachery, and the extent some will go for financial advantage.

All eyes are now on the Gupta family as the inquiry is under way; their activities might have resulted in a sad and unnecessary death. Should the claims be validated, this could rank among the most startling instances of familial treachery in modern memory.
