Dramatic Twist: Snake Dead After Being Bitten Back by Man in Bihar

In Nawada, southern Bihar, Santosh Lohar was bitten by a snake. He bit it back and killed it. According to local belief, biting the snake that bites you can neutralize the venom. That’s exactly what Santosh Lohar did in Rajauli.

The 35-year-old railway worker, who’s currently on a track-laying assignment in a heavily forested area, was bitten shortly after dinner on Tuesday while preparing to sleep.

In a bold move, Lohar grabbed the snake and sank his teeth into its scaly body with determination. His swift act of revenge killed the animal, while he managed to survive.

Soon after the incident, Lohar's colleagues quickly took him to Rajauli subdivision hospital, where Dr. Satish Sinha treated his snakebite, as reported by The Times of India.

The patient, admitted overnight, was released the morning after. According to Dr. Sinha, he “responded well to treatment”.

While the story is entertaining, albeit dramatic, experts advise against retaliating by biting a snake after being bitten.

According to the Mayo Clinic, snake venom spreads through the bloodstream, not through bites. Therefore, retaliating against a snake does not prevent or reverse the venom from affecting your body.

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) advises that focusing on revenge against the snake wastes crucial time that should be spent seeking medical attention.

In some cases, further struggle with the snake could lead to additional bites or injuries.

However, not all snakes are venomous. Some venomous species may have a relatively mild venom in terms of potency. In Lohar's case, the specific type of snake remains unknown.

The sooner a patient receives antivenom, the better their chances are of reducing tissue damage and other potential complications caused by snake venom.
