Delhi Liquor Policy Case: ED Files Chargesheet Against Arvind Kejriwal

A Delhi court on Tuesday acknowledged the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), naming Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as accused in the excise policy case.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court issued a production warrant for Arvind Kejriwal, scheduling it for July 12th.
On July 3, Arvind Kejriwal filed a fresh bail petition in the Delhi High Court concerning a case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) related to the alleged Delhi Liquor Policy scam. The CBI had earlier arrested the AAP leader on June 26 in connection with a corruption case while he was already in judicial custody due to a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
A petition challenging the arrest and remand by the CBI is currently pending in the high court, while another case seeking bail in the ED matter is awaiting trial court proceedings.
Previously, the Delhi CM secured bail from a vacation bench of the trial court in the ED case against him. However, the Delhi High Court stayed this order and directed a re-hearing by a designated bench.
Recently, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the CBI regarding the arrest and subsequent remand of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy case. The court has granted the CBI seven days to respond, with the next hearing scheduled for July 17.
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, informed the high court on Tuesday that although they are entitled to file a bail plea, they have not yet done so. On Wednesday, Kejriwal filed a bail petition in the CBI case at the high court.
Earlier, a different bench of the Delhi Court upheld the legality of CBI's arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy case, stating that while the arrest was deemed legal, the CBI should exercise caution and not be overly aggressive.
Judge Amitabh Rawat of Rouse Avenue Courts, sitting as the vacation judge, upheld the CBI's actions, emphasizing that investigation falls within the purview of the investigating agency.
